A slotted Aloha satellite channel simulator
Abstract
The task of developing a data communication system for mobile applications may be aided through the use of a customized simulator. By modeling the communications channel, the user population and traffic density may be optimized for peak performance under most conditions. A flexible slotted Aloha channel simulator, capable of customization to various channel configurations and user profiles, was developed as a flexible tool for analyzing the transient and steady-state performance of a multiple access network. The design of the simulator was based on the specifications associated with the satellite messaging protocol within the Telesat Mobile satellite data service. Sample simulation results are presented and analyzed, showing such phenomena as the effects of channel loading on queueing delay.
