Lambert problem in true-anomaly regularized variables
Abstract
True-anomaly regularization of the two-body problem permits a natural and efficient formulation of the Lambert problem once the time equation has been cast in a universal form. Using a new universal direct relation between time and true anomaly, the Lambert problem can be solved entirely without reference to Lambert's theorem. The iterative solution involves only one transcendental function evaluation per cycle. The parameters which appear naturally in the true-anomaly regularization permit easy interpretation and exploitation of a well known geometric property of the Lambert problem (linear locus of transfer-orbit Laplace vectors), and also avoid certain spurious singularities found in some other methods.
