Optical observations of the X-ray nova V404 Cygni.

After the original X-ray discovery by GINGA and the optical spectroscopic and photometric confirmation that V404 Cyg was the object in outburst, it was monitored for the next few months from γ-ray to radio wavelengths. In this contribution, the authors summarize some of their results of optical photometric and spectroscopic observations of V404 Cyg obtained from late May through early November 1989.
