Direct numerical simulation of transition to turbulence in Goertler flow
Abstract
Numerical simulations of transition to turbulence in Goertler flow were performed. Counterrotating Goertler vortices produce unstable, inflectional profiles of the streamwise velocity component both in the vertical z and the spanwise y direction. Transition to turbulence is initiated in the regions characterized by large values of the mean spanwise shear, delta(u)/delta(y), rather than by large values of the vertical shear delta(u)/delta(z).
