Evolution of the electron distribution function in strong electric fields
Abstract
The electron distribution function in neon is investigated using the Monte Carlo method. It is shown that, for an electric field intensity, the generation of secondary electrons leads to a stationary electron distribution function with respect to velocities. A limiting case is analyzed where all scattering processes, except secondary electron generation, can be neglected. The applicability of a binomial approximation for calculating the stationary electron distribution function is discussed.
