Miniaturization of signal conditioning electronics
Abstract
Previously designed signal conditioning electronics were reduced in size through the application of surface mount technology. Testing was performed on 120 manufactured units in four steps. Operational electrical tests were performed before temperature cycling, after which full electrical specification testing was carried out. Test results are provided for such parameters as gain and phase, line driver input to output, phase tracking, gain step, calibration input gain and phase, calibration input isolation, noise at output, and supply current. Suggestions were provided for future improvements in noise performance. Circuit changes were recommended which reduced the number of large components, improved circuit stability, and improved electrostatic discharge protection.
