A similar solution for an unsteady free convection flow past an impulsively started vertical plate with mass transfer and suction or injection
Abstract
A similar solution for the flow past a vertical plate started impulsively in its own plane in a viscous incompressible fluid is presented on taking into account the effects of variable suction and/or injection and mass transfer. To solve the momentum, energy and concentration equations, a time dependent length scale is introduced, which leads to the driving parameters gamma (=G(sub r)/R(sub sigma)(exp 2)) and gamma asterisk (=G(sub r) asterisk/R(sub sigma) (exp 2)), where G(sub r) and G(sub r) asterisk are respectively the Grashof and modified Grashof numbers while R(sub sigma) is the Reynolds number. The resulting locally similar momentum equation is then solved by the method of superposition. The effects of the parameters and that of suction/injection on the flow and on the wall shearstress of the plate are shown graphically for different values of Schmidt number and transpiration parameter.
