Target Earth: It Will Happen
Abstract
Cosmic impacts of the earth by asteroids and comets are examined. The impact history of the moon is discussed and compared with that of the earth. Theoretical and laboratory simulation experiments to evaluate the consequences of a collision between the earth and an asteroid or comet are reviewed. Earth crossing asteroids are listed and the probability of impacts with various equivalent energies is estimated.
