The Study of Ozone Behavior Over Brazil.
Abstract
Ozone behavior over the Earth has been studied by many researchers. To understand ozone patterns over Brazil, time-series analyses were applied as a statistical tool utilizing data obtained from the Nimbus Seven satellite total ozone mapping spectrometer (TOMS) over three inland and four ocean grid cells. Maps of ozone concentrations over Brazil were produced for the years 1979, 1983 and 1987. Results indicated a steady decrease of ozone concentration over the study area from 1979-1987; a decline in ozone concentrations from east to west over Brazil; current ozone concentrations were dependent on previous months level; strong correlations were evident between ozone concentrations and sunspot activity for inland areas but not for ocean areas; and troposphere ozone concentrations mimic the total ozone column with a strong seasonality signal.
