The proton spectral function of Ca-40 and Ca-48 studies with (e, e prime p) reaction: An investigation of ground-state correlations
Abstract
The single particle properties of the nuclei Ca-40 and Ca-48 were studied with quasielastic knockout experiments induced with electrons. These experiments were performed with the pulsed electron beam from the Medium Energy Accelerator (MEA) and the two spectrometer setup at NIKHEF-K (nuclear physics and high energy physics section K, Netherlands). The proton-spectral functions were determined from these measurements and for the discrete transitions momentum distributions were deduced. A schematic model which effectively takes into account short range correlations in order to explain the observed low spectroscopic factors is presented. Conclusions concerning ground state correlations and the spectroscopic factors derived from (e, e'p) experiments are drawn.
