Astrometry of the optical jet of M 87.
Abstract
Photographic plates of M 87 obtained with a 6-m telescope have been processed using the digital maximum entropy method and linear filtering. An optical image of the jet of M 87 with an angular resolution of 0.8 arcsec was obtained. It is found that the optical knots significantly deviate from the jet axis near the galaxy nucleus. The knots A and C were resolved into separate details across the axis. The positions of the optical knots are measured and compared with radio data.
