Symmetries, the Zamolodchikov metric and duality in string theory
Abstract
The general theory of symmetries in string theory is used to determine the Kahler potentials of untwisted moduli and matter scalars in ZN orbifolds. The relationship between the Zamolodchikov metric and the metric in the kinetic energy of the effective Lagrangian is discussed. Duality symmetries in the partition functions of closed strings compactified on torii are shown to be a direct consequence of the field theory duality of the associated 2-dimensional sigma models.
