Physics of the upper atmosphere. Results of investigations
Abstract
This symposium discusses processes taking place in the upper atmosphere and presents results of theoretical studies. Papers are presented on balloon-borne measurements of the stratospheric aerosol, a method for determining geopotential depths and temperature profiles of the stratosphere from measurements of outgoing radiation in the microwave range, calculations of total-ozone-content fields from Meteor IR radiometer data, measurement errors in the orientation parameters of meteorological rockets, and the variability of stratomesospheric processes in winter periods. Attention is also given to the mesoscale structure of the atmospheric ozone field, the causes of the stability of aerosol layers and the visible layer of noctilucent clouds in the mesopause, the nonlinear self-decay of internal gravity waves in the meteor zone and some of its geophysical consequences, longitudinal variations in the lower-thermosphere circulation, and seasonal variations in nonzonal thermospheric circulation.
