The search for periods of the sun's inertia oscillations in variations of geophysical indices
Abstract
The spectrum of variations of the AE index in the range of periods between 1 and 1000 days is plotted and studied, and a period of 44.1 + or - 0.3 days is reliably detected. A comparison with theoretical calculations of the sun's inertial oscillations shows that this period is a harmonic of these oscillations with l = 2 and m = 1. It is inferred that periods of 30.6, 29.4, and 28.8 days observed in variations of the AE index represent harmonics of inertial oscillations with l = 4, 5, and 6.
