Structure of the optimal motion trajectories of a rotating rigid body in a resistant medium
Abstract
The paper is concerned with the problem of maximizing the flight range of an axisymmetric rotating rigid body in the atmosphere. It is shown that the optimal trajectory may contain nonsingular arcs and one singular arc adjacent to the end of the trajectory. A region of initial data is defined for which the solution of the initial problem is reduced to that of finding a certain constant.
