Millimetre and infrared observations of the wind from the Wolf-Rayet star gamma Velorum.
Abstract
New observations of the Wolf-Rayet star Gamma Velorum between 1.25 and 1100 microns are presented. The spectral index is 0.69 + or - 0.02 between the millimeter flux and published radio observations at 4860 and 843 MHz. This indicates that recombination occurs at a large range of radii in the asymptotic region of the stellar wind. There is no evidence for nonthermal radio emission from the collision of the WC8 and O9 stellar winds.
