Giant pulsations Pg on a latitudinal profile of observing stations
Abstract
Phenomena asssociated with the generation of giant geomagnetic pulsations (Pg) at auroral latitudes are examined. In particular, it is shown that the Pg pulsations are associated with the generation of Pc4 pulsations at middle and subauroral latitudes; in the D-component the spectrum of these Pc4 pulsations has, in addition to harmonics coinciding with the fundamental Pg frequency, both higher and lower components. Attention is given to the possible relationship between the Pc4 excitation within the plasmasphere and the generation of Pg, probably due to the appearance of a highly localized field-aligned current beyond the plasmapause.
