The topside ionosphere profiles and their modelling.
Abstract
Vertical electron-density profiles in the topside ionsophere constructed on the basis of Intercosmos-19 and Cosmos-1809 data are compared with those obtained using the IRI-86 and SMI-85 models. Divergences between the experimental data and the models are considered for the summer season as a function of time of day, height, latitude, and solar activity. It is shown that the models considered only inadequately describe the electron density distribution in the topside ionosphere.
