Stability analysis of rotating elastic systems using the Lanczos method
Abstract
The structural stability of a rotating circular-cylindrical elastic shell is investigated analytically. Rotating coordinates are employed, and the problem is reduced to a symmetrical eigenvalue problem by taking advantage of the special characteristics of the system matrices. This problem is then solved by a Lanczos-type vector-iteration algorithm, and it is shown that the benefits of this approach are also applicable to the asymmetric case. Numerical results for a sample problem are presented graphically; good agreement with the analytical solutions is demonstrated.
