Flare Activity and the Proton Fluxes in the Near and Distant Heliosphere in Solar cycle 21
Abstract
The occurrence of solar proton events in the course of the sunspot cycles shows a regularity: the first maximum is located near the maximum of R; this is followed by a decrease. The second maximum occurred 2-3 years after the maximum of R. Annual mean values of proton fluxes of about 1 MeV near the earth, or at large distances in the heliosphere, demonstrate the same change.
