Strongly Magnetic White Dwarf Binaries in Globular Clusters
Abstract
It is predicted that globular clusters are likely to contain a new class of magnetic cataclysmic variables (CVs) with significantly high fields which is unknown among the CVs in the solar neighborhood. In addition, estimates of their expected X-ray luminosities are made and it is proposed that X-ray surveys combined with optical/UV observations should lead to the detection of the brightest of them. Specific target globular clusters with high probability of detection of these sources are given.
