The stellar winds in β Lyrae.
Abstract
The interacting binary system β Lyrae is studied by means of a detailed analysis of the UV emission lines observed with IUE, and its wind properties are modelled using the Munich wind codes and a 3D radiation transfer code designed to include the effect of stellar rotation. The author shows that the simultaneous presence of two winds, of different ionisation and mass-loss properties, each emitted by one of the component stars, can explain the observed features.
