A New Method for Deriving Stellar Membership with an Application to the Open Cluster NGC 1664
Abstract
The data published by Kerridge et al. (1973) are used here together with a new statistical method to determine the members of the open cluster NGC 1664. The new method involves the use of the chisquare test to find the parameters of the probability density function of the proper motions of a group of stars which probably are cluster members. The spatial density of the stars in the cluster is shown.
