The active eclipsing binary RS Canum Venaticorum.
Abstract
New observational data of the active eclipsing binary RSCVn is presented. This includes optical (uvby beta) and near infrared broadband photometry as well as high-resolution Ca II spectroscopy. A detailed discussion is made about relevant physical parameters based on absolute dimensions and accurate photometry during totality. Several suggested activity indicators (CaII emission, color indices, and continuum flux distribution) are analyzed; the results show a very active cool component with a normal hot companion. Finally, a comparison is made with evolutionary models indicating a reasonable agreement for the derived absolute dimensions.
