Equation of state and structure of the crust of an accreting neutron star
Abstract
The equation of state of the crust of an accreting neutron star is calculated. In contrast to the case of cold catalyzed matter, no softening is found in the region following the neutron drip point. Consequently, the outer layer of the crust with density below 10 to the 13th g/cu cm is about 20 percent thicker than that for the standard 1.4 solar mass neutron star built of catalyzed matter.
