Static spherically symmetric solution in a Kaluza-Klein type of metric
Abstract
A static spherically symmetric solution in vacuum is obtained in the five-dimensional variable gravity theory proposed recently by Wesson (1983, 1985). This solution generalizes an earlier 5D Schwarzschild-like solution obtained by Wesson. The solution is asymptotically flat, and various aspects of the model as regards the geodesic motion of a test particle, shape and stability of orbits, and red shift are also investigated, and a comparison made with the analogous cases of the 4D Schwarzschild metric. It is observed that there are significant differences between the two cases. The solution is also astrophysically important in the sense that it may represent the exterior gravitational field of any star-like object.
