Temporal polarization variations of Be stars. V. Comments on the similar behaviour of gamma Cassiopeiae and kappa Draconis.
Abstract
Polarimetric data of the bright Be stars γ Cassiopeiae and κ Draconis are assessed. For γCas, 3-colour measurements lead to an intrinsic line (projection of the stellar equator) at 112°4E of N. An inclination of the rotational pole of just less than 45° is also deduced. Fluctuations in the u* Stokes parameter suggest that there are disturbances in the stellar atmosphere close to the pole and that there is a periodicity ∼0d.6 For κ Dra, an intrinsic line at 23°1E of N is obtained from the long term temporal changes and shorter term fluctuations indicate polar activity with a possible period of 0d.7868.
