Nonlinear waves and inverse scattering
Abstract
An understanding is sought for nonlinear phenomena arising in physical problems. The solution to a number of these problems involves the Inverse Scattering Transform (IST). This is a method which employs the inverse scattering theory in order to linearize the given nonlinear equations. IST has led to new developments in both fields: inverse scattering and nonlinear wave equations. The following topics are discussed: multidimensional nonlinear evolution equations and inverse scattering; semiinfinite and forced nonlinear equations; numerically induced chaos; and cellular automata and solitons.
