Group manifold derivation of canonical theories
Abstract
The covariant canonical formalism for the group manifold, when supplemented by suitable gage fixing conditions, leads naturally to known component canonical theories of gravity. Two examples are the standard tetrad theory and the 'new variables' theory of Ashtekar. The method does not use the spinor formalism.
