The auroral oval and planetary regularities of geophysical phenomena at high latitudes
Abstract
The history of the formulation and verification of the auroral-oval theory is described. Mishin's opposing hypothesis of two quasi-circular zones is examined, and the aurora-oval theory is discussed in connection with the spatial-temporal distribution of geomagnetic disturbances.
