Discovery of a ray structure in the zodiacal light
Abstract
The paper reviews previous literature on the discovery of fine bright rays in the zodiacal light on the basis of visual observations carried out from the Salyut 4 and 6 stations. It was hypothesized that this ray structure is due to the scattering of solar radiation by particles of very young and relatively very dense meteoroid showers at the orbits of periodic comets. In recent years this interpretation has been corroborated by IRAS measurements.
