Densification and critical current density of YBa2Cu3O(x) ceramics
Abstract
The possible improvement of Jc in YBa2Cu3O(x) by densification of sintered bodies is examined. The bulk density of sintered bodies was increased in two ways: ball-milling calcined powder to obtain fine particles and increase sinterability, and forming specimens by swagging to obtain powder compacts of high density. Sintered bodies with bulk densities greater than 6.0 g/cu cm were obtained, but the samples did not show high Jc values. By addressing problems during the densification process, the Jc value was improved to 600-800 A/sq cm.
