Transition to chaos in simple mechanical systems
Abstract
In the present paper, chaotic system behavior in the sense of irregular behavior with respect to time under conservation of an ordered spatial structure is studied. Because of a lack of a generic transition from ordered system movement to chaotic state of movement, essentially the three following scenarios for classification of the phenomena found in experiments arose: (1) Ruelle-Takens-Newhouse scenario, (2) Feigenbaum or period doubling transition scenario, and (3) Pomeau-Manneville or intermittent transition. By means of two simple examples it is shown that all three transition scenarios may occur if suitable parameters are changed.
