A new servo turntable test method is described by which the general drift error model of a two-degree-of-freedom gyro with 18 unknown coefficients can be identified exactly by a single test. The kinematic equations of the turntable motion are derived and initial orientation schemes of the turntable are discussed. Algorithms for estimating the error model coefficients are presented along with simulation results. The latter show that the outputs of the filter has a steady value and that each estimate of the coefficients is very close to its true value after about 30 hours. Compared with the conventional servo turntable method, the present method reduces the necessary testing time and improves the quality of the modeling. The new method can be easily and directly extended to the single-axis servo turntable test.
