On the Bose-Einstein condensation of particles with finite lifetime - as demonstrated by excitons
Abstract
We are investigating the Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) of dilute nonequilibrium gas of bosons with finite lifetime. It is shown that it is impossible to obtain BEC of dilute exciton or biexciton gas in a semiconductor by means of phonon cooling only (if their lifetime is not very long, > 10 -3s). This could explain the fact that BEC of these systems has not yet been seen experimentally for incoherent pumping.
