Analysis of the effect of nonlinearity on the efficiency of adaptive antenna arrays
Abstract
A typical source of nonlinearity in adaptive antenna arrays (AAAs) is the multiplier that is incorporated in the basic algorithms with correlation feedbacks. The effect of this nonlinearity is examined for two typical AAA control algorithms: (1) an algorithm synthesized according to the criterion of minimum mean standard deviation (MMSD) of the received signal from the reference signal and (2) an algorithm synthesized according to the criterion of the maximum ratio (MR) of signal power to the sum of the powers of signal and noise. It is shown that MR algorithm necessitates a more stringent multiplier linearity requirement than the MSD algorithm.
