A possibility of augmenting the transition radiation from a modulated electron beam in an inhomogeneous plasma
Abstract
A numerical method is used to analyze the emission of coherent transition radiation during the interaction between a modulated electron beam and an inhomogeneous plasma with an arbitrary concentration profile. It is shown, for the example of a cutoff linear profile, that removal of the plasma from the region where it creates an opaque barrier leads to a significant increase in the radiation efficiency.
