Multicavity klystrons with voltage stepping
Abstract
A one-dimensional relativistic model is used to assess the effect of voltage stepping in extractors with autonomous cavities and in bunched multicavity klystrons. It is shown that for the extractors the efficiency can be increased by 5-8 percent under optimal conditions given a substantial increase (up to 25 percent) of the output power. In the klystron case, the optimal length of the device can be reduced by 3-4 times while preserving high efficiency.
