A Analytical Two-Phase Void Prediction Method
Abstract
The problem of the prediction of vapor void fraction in two-phase duct flow in the region between the onset of boiling in a liquid stream with low initial sub-cooling and its subsequent all-vapor condition has been treated. Following the literature review and a comparative study of a number of well-known void fraction correlations a new analytical void formula has been proposed, which predicts void fraction as a function of steam mass flow fraction under adiabatic as well as diabatic flow conditions. The formula is based on the limit conditions of the two-phase flow, such as near the all liquid or all vapor state. Its wide applicability is demonstrated by comparison with experimental data and state-of-the-art empirical correlations.
