A remote sensor to monitor combustion products using a tunable acousto-optic filter
Abstract
An optical system using a tunable acousto-optic filter to measure the temperature and partial pressures of CO and CO2 in combustion gases was designed and operated. The system measures the infrared absorption over a linear path through the combustion products from several lines of the vibration-rotation band of CO at 4.7 microns. The temperature and partial pressure of CO is then calculated using these data. The infrared absorption due the asymmetric stretch mode of CO2 is then measured. The entire system, under computer control, is self calibrating and is well suited for remote process control applications.
