On the interaction of a pulsar with the ambient medium utilizing X ray images of the Crab nebula
Abstract
The measured soft x ray brightness of Crab nebula and simulated data are compared. The aim is a better understanding of the conversion of the Crab pulsar's rotational energy into synchrotron radiation. The soft x ray data obtained in 1979 by the high resolution imager on the Einstein observatory is compared with the brightness distribution of a three dimensional model, based on theoretical concepts developed by Rees and Gunn in 1974 and by Aschenbach and Brinkmann in 1975.
