Cyclotron instability and the generation radio emission in pulsar magnetospheres.
Abstract
It is shown that cyclotron instability can develop in the magnetosphere of a typical pulsar if the magnetic field structure near its surface differs significantly from the dipolar one so that the radius of curvature of the magnetic field lines is of the order of a radius of the neutron star. The cyclotron instability develops in the neighborhood of the pulsar's light cylinder leading to the generation of a radio emission. The characteristics of this emission are discussed.
