Pulsed optically pumped laser and maser action in isotopically substituted OCS
Abstract
Mid infrared 19.2 μm and far infrared (350 μm to 8.76 mm) optically pumped laser action has been observed in carbonyl sulphide 18O 12C 32S, 16O 13C 32S and 18O 13C 32S. Numerous new lines are observed and assigned, including Δ l forb idden pump transitions and the longest output wavelength so far observed in a system of this type. No new lines were observed from a 20% enriched 17O 12C 32S sample, thus confirming a Δ l forbidden pump assignment in 16O 12C 32S.
