Poincaré and gauge invariances in the constituent-string model
Abstract
The constituent-string model developed in earlier work provides an alternative to the usual description of asymptotic states as direct products of single-particle states, and may be more appropriate for the strong interactions. Here, the simple but nonlinear N-body harmonic-oscillator Lagrangian is modified to include gauge symmetries in analogy to electrodynamics. Gauge conditions then lead to a set of "orthonormal" conditions equivalent to the invariant supplementary conditions used in earlier work to suppress time oscillations.
