A Ku-band SSB mixer
Abstract
The paper presents the design and construction of a single sideband (SSB) mixer. Conversion loss, SWR, LO/RF isolation and image suppression have been measured by a computer-automated technique. A number of mixers for Ku band have been built using microstrip technology. The operating frequency ranges were from 15 to 16 GHz and from 14 to 14.5 GHz, while the IF in both cases was 70 MHz. The RF insertion loss of the SSB mixers was less than 6 dB, while image suppression was greater than 20 dB (for the 15 to 16 GHz mixer) and greater than 35 dB (for 14 to 14.5 GHz mixer). Also, RF/LO isolation of greater than 30 dB has been achieved.
