A coin variant of the Euler equations
Abstract
The compressibleoverincompressible (COIN) formulation developed by Dadone (1986) for use with the Lambdasplitting technique of Moretti (1979) is applied to the numerical solution of the Euler equations. The derivation is briefly outlined, and results obtained using the COIN version of the equations with either fluxdifference splitting or Lambda splitting are presented in graphs for (1) flow around a circular cylinder at Mach 0.38 and (2) flow on a NACA 0012 airfoil at Mach 0.72 and angle of attack zero. The use of the COIN equations is shown to improve the accuracy of the computation in all cases.
