Pyroelectric effect and its practical applications
Abstract
The theory underlying primary, secondary, and tertiary pyroelectric effects are discussed. The characteristics of pyroelectric effects in the metal-ferroelectric-metal system are described together with methods and experimental setups used to investigate pyroelectric and thermophysical characteristics of pyroactive materials. Data obtained on the pyroelectric effect in various single crystals, ceramics, and composites are analyzed, and the fluctuation phenomena observed in pyroactive materials are discussed. Special attention is given to the principles of the operation of pyroelectric radiation detectors for measuring weak and intense fluxes, coordinated and cavity detectors, multielement detectors, and image transformers.
