Modulational instability of a lower hybrid wave in a plasma slab
Abstract
The modulational instability of a lower hybrid pump is studied in a plasma slab. The coupled mode equations are solved using perturbation technique and growth rate for the four-wave process is obtained. It is found that the instability is possible only for quasimode frequency ω>ωpi. The growth rate increases with pump frequency and mode number, and is quite significant for moderate pump fields.
