Stratospheric complex ion conductivities
Abstract
In order to understand the influence of complex ion composition and aerosol ions on the conductivities, the 13-ion scheme proposed by Mitra has been invoked. A number of observed low latitude aerosol distribution profiles have been considered. The ion scheme has been first used to compute the small and aerosol ion densities under different geophysical conditions. It is found that large depletion of small ions are reproduced by the model which arise due to intense layering of aerosols, e.g. in 25-35 km height range. An attempt has also been made to run the ion-scheme with complex ions of the type-H(+)(H2O)n, H(+)(CH3CN)l/(H2O)m, NO3(-)(HNO3)n and HSO4(-)(HNO3)n.
