Surface polaritons in yttrium-iron and gallium-gadolinium garnets
Abstract
A comparative analysis is made of the external and frustrated total internal reflection spectra of yttrium-iron and gallium-gadolinium garnets in the lattice vibration region 800-300/cm. Dispersion relations are presented for the surface polaritons of the crystals. One-phonon and two-phonon bands in the frequency region investigated are identified. It is shown that surface polaritons exhibit a nontrivial behavior resulting from the magnetooptical properties of the crystals.
